BP succession fail puts spotlight on its board

But the surprise departure of former leader Bernard Looney the previous day reflects poorly on the company’s board. Looney’s resignation, after failing to fully disclose details of past relationships with colleagues, appears to have caught BP by surprise. That’s embarrassing for the board, whose responsibilities include planning for succession in case something happens to the CEO. Auchincloss told staff in a brief town hall meeting on Sept. 13 that the company’s aims were unchanged. And our focus remains on performance – quarter by quarter,” Auchincloss, who was previously chief financial officer, told staff, according to a company spokesperson.

Giuliani helped Purdue Pharma strike a deal with the government to keep selling the drug. Purdue Pharma hired Giuliani back in 2002, representing the first client his consulting firm ever landed, The New York Times reported in 2007. By getting Brownlee to agree to prosecute the parent company, Purdue Frederick, rather than Purdue Pharma, Giuliani and his team were also able to prevent a ban against Purdue Pharma doing future business with the federal government, which manages public health programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and the Veterans Administration health system, The Guardian reported. Under our settlement, Purdue Pharma would cease to exist and Knoa Pharma, a newly formed company with a public-minded mission, would emerge. The settlement would deliver over $10 billion of value for opioid crisis abatement, overdose rescue medicines, and victim compensation."

That, however, is considerably more overlap than between the protagonists featured in H.W. Brands’s latest book, “The Last Campaign: Sherman, Geronimo and the War for America.” Despite their twin billing, the general and the Apache leader do not cross paths in the book, and apparently never met. Moreover, while “Heat” remains original and taut (despite its nearly three-hour runtime), “The Last Campaign” is predictable and baggy, following an established path now beaten to dust by generations of professional and popular historians. At first blush, author and subject seem well matched. Mr. Brands is a talented storyteller, with a novelist’s feel for pacing and detail.

CNN —DC Attorney General Karl Racine announced a lawsuit against embattled Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder, the team and the NFL on Thursday, alleging they colluded to deceive DC residents about an NFL investigation into the team’s toxic workplace culture and allegations of sexual assault. The lawsuit cites the District of Columbia’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act, which gives the Attorney General broad authority to hold individuals or a company accountable for misleading customers. At the same time, Snyder and the team tried to interfere with and obstruct the investigation, the lawsuit states. The Attorney General said the penalties could run into the millions of dollars. Robinson’s agent Ryan Williams tweeted his displeasure with the Commanders’ statement on Wednesday night.

Since 2017, US military service branches have been rolling out new M17 and M18 handguns. The M17 and the compact M18 variant are the latest in a long line of sidearms that US troops have carried into battle since 1776. Two Model 1805s are featured on the US Army Military Police Corps insignia, and a similar pistol can be seen on the US Navy SEAL emblem.
